Armando Cabrera (26.21m) and Mariana Ledesma (30.56m) were the winners in the 18 to 35 age category in the first edition of the Carrera de las Utopías held this morning in Mexico City.
The route, in which more than 15 thousand runners participated, began at the SCOP Center and ended at the GNP stadium in Magdalena Mixhiuca. The participants traveled along important roads such as Viaducto, Eje 4 and Eje Central, among others.
Men, women, people in wheelchairs and even entire families attended the 8-kilometer race. Hundreds of people accompanied the runners’ journey with cheers and banners of support throughout the route.
The race generated great expectations among the capital’s runners, which is why two rounds of registrations had to be made, which were free.
The route is part of Mexico City’s mobilization plan, which includes national boxing classes such as the one held a few days ago by Head of Government Clara Brugada at the Maracaná stadium in Tepito.
The Utopias of CDMX are a project created by Brugada. They are complexes with cultural, recreational, social and sports infrastructure, to promote inclusion, participation and construction of the social fabric.
The race will be held every year; in each edition a collectible medal will be awarded with a letter to form the word utopia.
Alejandro Pacheco, selected for the Pan American Games, was the winner in the visually impaired category.
