Traditional Festivals of San José del Cabo celebrate the founding of the mission

San José del Cabo was founded on April 8, 1730 with the creation of the mission of San José del Cabo Añuití, established by the Jesuit Nicolás Tamaral and the visiting father José Echeverría.

Originally, the mission was located near the estuary, but due to health problems, it was moved to its current location in the center of the town. The emblematic Church of San José was built in this place, which today is the heart of the festivities.

Among the activities that stand out in the Traditional Festivals of San José del Cabo are the pilgrimage of the patron saint and horseback riding. In addition, they combine with popular entertainment, with live music events, folk dances, mechanical games and a wide gastronomic offer that includes typical dishes from the region.

One of the most anticipated moments of the celebration is the coronation of the Queen of the Traditional Festivals. The election is carried out by voting among the inhabitants of the municipality who meet certain requirements, such as being between 18 and 25 years old, being single and having resided in the town for at least five years.
