A video is circulating on social media showing a woman and a man who missed their flight from Miami to Cancun, Mexico, and were involved in an altercation with police when they tried to force their way in to board the flight.
According to airport authorities, the passengers, identified as Rafael Seirafe-Novaes and Beatriz Rapoport De Campos Maia, were late to board their flight to Cancun this Sunday, March 2. American Airlines staff told them it was impossible for them to board their flight, so Rafael Seirafe-Novaes threw coffee at the employee in response.
In addition to that action, the passengers began yelling at the staff. It was at that moment that airport security agents arrived to calm the situation, but everything quickly escalated, and at least six Miami-Dade Sheriff’s agents intervened.
Seirafe-Novaes was charged with resisting authority without violence and trespassing, while Rapoport De Campos Maia faced charges of two counts of assault and trespassing. The airline condemned the act and expressed its commitment to cooperate with the authorities in the investigation.
