As part of the rehabilitation of a sports complex located in the town of Palmita de Landeta, in the municipality of San Miguel de Allende, Cemex participated in the construction of the Fuente de los Artesanos, the largest in this World Heritage city, which seeks to reduce the context of insecurity by providing new spaces for coexistence.
With this architectural proposal, they seek to promote physical activities, as well as guarantee the right to a free and healthy life for the inhabitants of the area. At the same time, this monumental work pays homage to the well-known aesthetics of the crafts of one of the most famous municipalities in Mexico.
The work includes eight sheet metal sculptures in the shape of steel stars that, at different heights, emulate the typical crafts of the place. It also has 13 water jets, and all together, recreates a unique atmosphere that exalts the work of the artisans of the region.
Cemex contributed to the design of materials to build the sports space, provided general recommendations, coordination, logistics and supervision of the construction process, in addition to providing low-shrinkage Pisocret concrete and Vertua concrete, in a project that seeks to reactivate an important social space.
Created by architect Yuririana Murillo Buenrostro and engineer Ulises Barba Aguilera, this piece was built under a process that reduced carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions into the environment.
The supply of Cemex’s sustainable Vertua concrete used for the construction of the fountain prevented the emission of 24 tons of CO2, an effort that is equivalent to 1,905 cars stopping circulation for an entire day, thus increasing the quality of life of its inhabitants and expressing in its design a recognition of the artisans of Guanajuato.
