Spring Break fills beaches and bars in Los Cabos: high expectations in businesses

With the arrival of the first spring breakers, restaurateurs, merchants and activity promoters in Los Cabos have high expectations that this season will generate a significant economic spillover for their establishments. In an interview with CPS Noticias and Tribuna de Los Cabos, Garrid Araos Wilkes, manager of a restaurant on El Médano beach, commented that his establishment expects to receive approximately 1,600 university students per week who seek to enjoy the characteristic atmosphere of the place.

“As always, they have told us that a lot of influx is expected. The numbers that are expected have varied a lot; between 15 thousand and 40 thousand students. We as a restaurant are expecting between 1,600 and 1,500 people, and the only detail is that they hardly want to eat, they want to drink more, the truth is. They come to the party, and it is understandable because they are kids between the ages of 18 and 25. For us it looks very good because the kids are going to come Monday through Wednesday, plus we have the establishment that comes during spring break.”

On the other hand, Gabriel Ramos, promoter of tourist activities in El Médano, indicated that, so far, there has not been a large influx of tourists, but with the arrival of the spring breakers he hopes that this will change and begin to generate income for his business.

“So far we are waiting for the spring breakers to arrive, and for the season to start between March and April. The whole year has been slow, very little tourism, we hope that the season improves and many students arrive in Los Cabos.”

According to the Los Cabos Hotel Association, the tourist destination has registered a hotel occupancy of 76% during the first week of Spring Break, and it is estimated that during the next five weeks, around 50,000 students from the United States will arrive in the municipality.
