The municipal government of Apaseo El Grande, Guanajuato, confirmed that an attack occurred on Thursday in the community of San José Agua Azul, which left seven people dead, including a woman, and a 10-year-old boy injured.
According to the municipal government, the injured were taken to hospitals in the area and, according to the municipal authority, an operation is being carried out at the site.
Some newspaper reports say that the victims were building an altar on the grave of a man who was murdered a few days ago.
According to the newspaper Milenio, the grave belonged to a person considered a generator of violence for the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG).
The events reportedly occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Hidalgo Street, when at least six armed men arrived at the cemetery and shot at the group of people.
The attackers reportedly escaped in a gray pickup truck.
Due to these events, the State Attorney General’s Office began the corresponding investigations.
It should be remembered that in November of last year another armed attack was recorded in Apaseo el Grande, which left eight dead, including firefighters and a paramedic
The armed attack occurred at the entrance to the municipality of Apaseo el Grande and also left two wounded. Among the victims are members of the Fire Department and a paramedic from the Guanajuato State Emergency System (SUEG).
The incident took place on the night of November 30 in an area known as the Trébol de los Apaseos, where various food establishments are located.
According to initial reports, a group of armed individuals opened fire from at least one moving vehicle, attacking the people who were there. Local authorities confirmed that among the deceased are Ricardo Eduardo López Ortega, a paramedic from the SUEG, as well as firefighters Ulises Ramírez Vázquez and Alejandro Ortega, who lost their lives after being hit by gunfire. In addition, five other people were preliminarily identified, while the names of two victims remain withheld.
The Guanajuato Health Department used its official Facebook account to confirm the death of Ricardo Eduardo López Ortega, who worked as a transfer paramedic in the Cortázar sector. López Ortega, known as “Lalo,” was originally from the municipality of Juventino Rosas and worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). In a message shared by the SUEG, he lamented his loss with the words: “Lalo, you leave a big void in the SUEG, but above all in your family.”
For its part, the Celaya Veteran Firefighters organization reported the death of the combatants Ulises Ramírez Vázquez and Alejandro Ortega, who were also victims of the attack. The news generated consternation in the community, especially among the emergency services, who expressed their solidarity with the families of the deceased.
