The Secretary of Security, Omar García Harfuch, announced the arrest in Durango of the criminal leader Leonel Salas Fabela alias “El Sobrino”, one of the 10 most wanted in Chihuahua and Texas for drugs, human trafficking and sexual crimes.
The criminal leader operated in the Juarez Valley, an area controlled by the Sinaloa Cartel, an organization linked to drug trafficking and human trafficking to the United States. In addition, Leonel Salas Fabela, 34, is the subject of an arrest warrant for aggravated kidnapping and sexual crimes.
Federal authorities managed to arrest three people, two men and one woman, as a result of intelligence work coordinated between the Secretariats of the Navy, Security and Citizen Protection and National Defense, as well as the Attorney General’s Office and the National Guard.
The security forces deployed the operation in the municipality of Poanas, Durango, considered one of its main mobility areas. And when they managed to locate him, “El Sobrino” was accompanied by two people, identified as Tereso de Jesús Rocha Puentes, 57 years old, and Alicia Sarahí Olivas Simental, 30 years old.
The authorities subjected them to a security inspection, seizing a firearm and various doses of drugs, so they were arrested in flagrante delicto and placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office.

Who are the Cabreras, the cartel responsible for the violence in Durango?
The Cabrera Sarabias are the ones who are at the head of the cartel in the state of Durango; they control practically 90 percent of the territory and activities linked to organized crime.
They are brothers, originally from the community of Vasco Gil, they worked directly under the tutelage of El Mayo Zambada and they are the ones who have been at war with Los Chapitos, defending their position in Durango.
‘Los Cabrera’ is the name given to three brothers: Felipe, Alejandro and José Luis Cabrera Sarabia.
The United States Treasury Department said that for years they have been involved in the transfer of synthetic drugs and marijuana from Mexico.
They are believed to have started in 1996, and based in Durango, they have served both ‘El Chapo’ and ‘El Mayo’ in the confrontations and in the operations related to drug trafficking in the neighboring state where they have their headquarters.
Felipe Cabrera ‘El Inge’ was the main face of the criminal organization, since for years he was lieutenant of ‘Mayo’ Zambada; however, he was arrested in 2011. With that, his brother Alejandro (one of those who appear on the ‘Los Chapitos’ narco banner) assumed control of the organization.
Alejandro Cabrera Sarabia is known as ‘El 02’, and after assuming the leadership of the family organization he has been in charge of helping in drug trafficking through states such as Baja California. Reports indicate that he would have been arrested in 2013, although due to the public accusation made against him by ‘Los Chapitos’, it is possible that he is free.
José Luis, known as ‘El JL’, has been in charge of the administration of the family ranches, although according to ‘Los Chapitos’, he would be responsible for crimes such as the right of floor and violence in Zacatecas, Durango and Sinaloa.
On the other hand, on Wednesday afternoon in the city of Durango, the presence of federal authorities, who were working on another “discreet operation,” generated chaos in the city; panic, disorder and confusion, in addition to one person shot and a police crash, which left three injured.
The chaos began when near the shopping center known as Paseo Durango, a motorcyclist and a blue Nissan Versa vehicle had a traffic altercation, which ended with the descent of an armed Federal element who shot at the motorcyclist, wounding him in the right foot; the event was recorded before the expectant gaze of hundreds of citizens who were passing by the place, who upon hearing the shots became nervous and panicked.
Later, the red code was activated, so state police elements rushed to the spot, trying to stop whoever had shot the motorcyclist, but the occupants of the blue vehicle also responded, pointing weapons; in the midst of the confusion they managed to identify themselves as elements of the National Guard.
With the red light on, a State Police patrol car ran a stop sign to get to the scene of the incident, crashing into a passenger truck, where three people were injured and the patrol car was destroyed.
