The Government of Michoacán will file a complaint with the Federal Judicial Council (CJF) for the resolution of the District Judge, Rubén García Mateos, who determined to release Jesús Rivera Aguirre, alias Don Chuy or La Hamburguesa, a dangerous criminal identified as the alleged boss of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG).
The first to react to the decision was Juan Carlos Oseguera, head of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of Michoacán, who described the release of Don Chuy as an “excessive act of irresponsibility on the part of the Judiciary.”
For his part, Carlos Torres Piña, Secretary of Government of Michoacán, reported that they will request an observation and file a complaint with the CJF; he added that the information they have is that the Public Ministry that carried out the arrest was not the same one that reported it, which represents an error by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
The last to speak out – in an interview with Milenio – was Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, emphasizing that there was an act of “corruption” on the part of the judge who decided not to prosecute Don Chuy despite there being overwhelming evidence against him.
It is worth remembering that Don Chuy was arrested on February 25 along with three other alleged hitmen after a confrontation with elements of the National Guard and Civil Guard in various parts of the municipality of Zacapu.
The decision of Judge Rubén García Mateos occurs only a week after Omar García Harfuch, head of the SSPC, declared in a press conference that the Government of Mexico sent 29 drug traffickers to the United States because:
“The Security Cabinet has information that there was a risk that some of these requested targets would be released or their extradition processes would continue to be delayed due to agreements with some judges who sought to favor them as had already been done on other occasions and for many years.”
In response, the CJF rejected García Harfuch’s allegations and urged him to present evidence to the competent authorities and emphasized that, if there is evidence, “proceedings will be taken against judges, in accordance with the law and without exceptions.”
President Claudia Sheinbaum also got involved in the discussion, who when questioned about the issue in one of her conferences stated that: “I can tell you one thing: the corruption of the Judiciary in our country is aberrant and offensive.”
