A Sun Country Airlines flight en route from Minneapolis-St. Paul to Mazatlán, Mexico, made an unscheduled stop in El Paso, Texas, on Wednesday afternoon due to a reported “security concern.” After an investigation by the FBI, officials confirmed there was no threat to the passengers, crew, or aircraft.

The flight, identified as Sun Country Airlines Flight 593, diverted to El Paso out of “an abundance of caution,” according to the airline. The FBI conducted a thorough examination and concluded that the safety of those aboard had not been compromised.

“There was no threat to the safety of the passengers, flight crew, or airplane,” stated John Morales, the FBI Special Agent in Charge in El Paso, on Wednesday night.

The airline did not provide additional details about the nature of the security concern, but all 156 passengers deplaned without incident. The investigation has since been closed, and the flight’s precautionary diversion serves as a reminder of the commitment to ensuring aviation safety.
