A horrific collision between a passenger bus and a tractor-trailer on the Durango-Gómez Palacio highway has left 14 people dead and several injured. The tragedy occurred early Monday morning near the intersection with the town of Velardeña, in the municipality of Cuencamé.
According to eyewitnesses, one of the drivers crossed into the opposite lane, causing a fatal head-on impact while most passengers were asleep. The flames quickly engulfed both vehicles, trapping victims inside and preventing rescue efforts due to the intensity of the fire.
Desperate family members and survivors attempted to help but were ultimately unable to assist those trapped in the bus. Witnesses called 911, mobilizing Red Cross paramedics, firefighters, and Civil Protection personnel to control the blaze and aid the injured.
The magnitude of the tragedy forced the authorities to partially close the highway as ambulances and patrol cars transported the injured to nearby hospitals. Forensic medical experts and agents from the Durango State Attorney General’s Office arrived at the scene to recover the victims’ remains for DNA testing identification purposes.
This devastating accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and vigilance while driving. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy, and we hope that those responsible will be held accountable.
