The tragedy struck on Wednesday, March 12th, as a devastating accident occurred on the stretch of Federal Highway 307 connecting Playa del Carmen to Tulum. A 32-year-old Argentine woman, Georgina, lost her life after being involved in a collision between two vehicles near Puerto Aventuras and Akumal.
According to eyewitness accounts, the incident happened at approximately 2:30 pm when a blue Nissan March crossed into the opposite lane and crashed into a white Nissan March. The impact was severe, causing significant damage to both vehicles.
The scene was captured on video by passing motorists who witnessed the accident unfold. Witnesses rushed to assist the four injured individuals, including three women and one man, until authorities arrived at the scene.
Paramedics were quick to respond, transporting the victims to hospitals in Playa del Carmen for treatment. Members of the National Highway Guard also attended the scene, cordoning off the area to prevent further accidents from occurring due to the stranded vehicles on Federal Highway 307.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation, but initial reports suggest that it was a result of reckless driving. The loss of Georgina’s life has sent shockwaves through the community, and her family is still grappling with the news.
