The president of the Center for Human Rights and Advice to Indigenous Peoples (Cedhapi), Maurilio Santiago Reyes, reported that the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances has convened an oral hearing with representatives of the Mexican State regarding the enforced disappearance of Alexis Marín Ramírez.
This hearing, he explained, will be held on March 17, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at UN Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
Alexis Marín, 20 years old, disappeared on November 7, 2017, on the highway that connects the town of San Miguel el Grande, Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca, to the Heroic City of Tlaxiaco. His enforced disappearance occurred one kilometer before the village of Palo de Letra in the city of Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca.

Regarding her disappearance, investigation file 03/CCUEDF/2019 was filed with the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Specialized Unit for Missing Persons of the Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office.
Maurilio Santiago assured that this hearing will highlight the lack of investigation and the unjustified delays carried out by the Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office, and will also address the regional and national context of enforced disappearances in Mexico.
At the hearing, representing the Mexican State were the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Mexico in Geneva, Francisca Elizabeth Méndez Escobar, and representing the Government of the State of Oaxaca, the Human Rights Coordinator of the State of Oaxaca, Flor Estela Morales Hernández.
Along with six other officials from the Mexican Mission in Geneva, and representing the authors of the communication, Pedro Ramírez Barrios, a relative of Alexis Marín Ramírez; Maurilio Santiago Reyes; and two other members of Cedhapi, the organization supporting the case, will appear.
The hearing will be chaired by the president of the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances, Oliver de Frouville, and will also address specific topics related to enforced disappearances.
