The Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) released the expert report on the bus that overturned on the Mitla-Tehuantepec Highway, leaving 19 victims.
According to the investigation, the accident was a result of driver negligence and not a mechanical failure.
Attorney General Bernardo Rodríguez reported that, according to the expert reports, it was established that the accident occurred because the driver lost control of the bus.
He explained that, as a result of the expert work carried out by specialists from the Oaxaca Attorney General’s Office, the cause of the accident was determined. The accident occurred on Monday, March 10, 2025, at kilometer 83+200 of the Mitla-Tehuantepec Highway, in the jurisdiction of Santo Domingo Narro, San Juan Juquila Mixe.
According to the results issued by the FGE’s Institute of Forensic Services, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the vehicle—white and blue, with license plate 59RB-9G—to leave the road.
The forensic examinations revealed that “clear vision is only observed on the left side, while on the right side, the tire has lost grip.”
As a result of the accident, 19 people lost their lives, nine of whom were men and ten were women. The Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office stated that the bodies of the victims have already been released to their families after legal identification.
In response to these events, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) immediately deployed multidisciplinary teams from the Regional Vice-Prosecutor’s Office, as well as personnel from the Isthmus Regional Vice-Prosecutor’s Office and the Institute of Forensic Services, to gather evidence and provide support to the families throughout the legal proceedings.
Finally, the Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office stated that it investigates these types of cases with methodological rigor, through expert studies in various fields, with the goal of scientifically establishing the circumstances of the accident and determining responsibility.
