A violent attack unfolded on Tuesday night outside the Chilam Balam Hotel in Tulum, Quintana Roo. At least 12 shots were fired by armed individuals, leaving one man dead and another seriously injured.
The incident occurred around midnight near the intersection of Tulum Avenue and Beta Street. According to eyewitnesses, hotel employees immediately contacted the authorities after hearing the gunfire.
Local authorities responded promptly, with Mexican Red Cross paramedics arriving at the scene within minutes. One of the victims was pronounced dead on site, while the other was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The wounded man’s status is unknown, but he was reportedly in a red code due to severe blood loss from his gunshot wounds, which are believed to be located in the abdomen and arm.
Municipal Police cordoned off the area and requested assistance from investigative officers from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office. The victim’s body has been transported to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) for a legal autopsy. The case remains under investigation as the authorities work to gather evidence and identify those responsible.
