In a heart-wrenching post on social media, Myriam Hernández identified her friend, affectionately known as “La China”, among the victims found at a clandestine extermination camp allegedly operated by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Rancho Izaguirre.

The discovery of the camp on March 5, 2025, by the Guerreros Buscadores collective has led to a massive effort to identify remains and belongings of the victims. For Myriam, who had been searching for her friend since she disappeared while looking for work, the news brought both relief and sorrow.

“My China, you were a good mother seeking a better future for your son,” Hernández wrote in an emotional farewell. “We will always remember you as a warrior. We don’t know how much you suffered, but at least you rest in peace now. We love you, Chinita.”

The identification of La China’s remains was made possible by a photograph found inside a religious reliquary, which was among the personal belongings discovered at the camp. Her family and friends had never given up hope of finding her, and their perseverance has brought closure to those who loved her.

The discovery of the CJNG’s extermination camp in Jalisco has sparked outrage and concern for human rights in Mexico. Authorities and collectives have been working tirelessly to identify victims and bring justice to their families.

As La China’s story becomes known on social media, it serves as a reminder of the devastating impact of cartel violence on innocent lives. Her legacy will live on through her family and friends, who continue to seek justice and peace in a country plagued by violence and impunity.
