In recent months, drug cartels have put Mexico’s security on edge, where drug lord violence has once again made global news. As a result, the Mexican government decided to order the extradition of several gangsters.
In addition, in the second week of March, it was learned that authorities had found human remains in a clandestine center that was allegedly used to disappear victims of violence in that country.
According to the Mexican government, this facility was used by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) to train young people who were recruited by its leaders. Those who resisted or did not comply with their requirements were murdered and burned at the same facility.
This news has several areas of Mexico on edge, where a wave of violence by drug traffickers is expected to increase again. So it was a surprise that, amid the scandal, Juan Pablo Escobar, son of Pablo Escobar, decided to enter a prison in Juárez.

The situation was exposed by the Colombian, who has been in Mexico for several months giving talks and conferences in which he exposes the negative aspects of drug trafficking and the consequences that the families of criminals end up paying.
“Yesterday I had an experience that marked me forever… I visited El Cereso prison in Ciudad Juárez. I didn’t go to see anyone in particular; I went to embrace those who don’t enjoy that precious freedom,” Escobar stated in the publication.
Pablo Escobar’s eldest son, who settled in Argentina with his mother and sister after the kingpin’s death, indicated that more than 2,000 convicts were present at the talk, who, in his opinion, just want a new opportunity.
“I spoke before 2,200 people. They listened to me in absolute silence. I told them, “I know what it’s like to be in prison… I was imprisoned at age 7 for the same old crime: being Pablo Escobar’s son.” I saw tears on faces that seemed made of steel. I felt the internal struggle of those seeking a second chance.
Finally, the Colombian expressed his concern that in Mexico, as in most Latin American countries, there is no proper work being done to reintegrate prisoners into society. He indicated that he always dedicates these kinds of talks to the victims of the violence caused by his father.
“Who will give them jobs when they get out? How many will return? I left hugging victims and perpetrators, asking God to put peace in their hearts. They gave me a standing ovation, which I dedicated to all the victims: my father’s and theirs. Freedom is like the air; you don’t know you had it until you lose it,” Escobar Henao emphasized.

This isn’t the first time the kingpin’s son has appeared amid Mexico’s security crisis. After the capture of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada in August 2024, the Colombian traveled to Mazatlán to give a conference before more than 5,000 people.
In his talks, Escobar emphasizes the love his father felt for him, his sister, and his mother, but counters this by mentioning that as a teenager, he understood the evil Pablo Escobar wreaked on the world, which completely changed his perception of life.
“Boys and girls: I’m sure you have a lot of wrong information in your minds and hearts today. The only thing they’ve done to us is damage our minds because they’ve made us believe that the path to success is through crime. Nothing could be more deceitful than that… What would my life have been like if I had believed that, because I was Pablo Escobar’s son, I was obligated to continue his criminal legacy,” the Colombian stated during a conference in Monterrey.
