Spring Equinox 2025: When is it and what time does it start in Mexico?

With the arrival of March, the beginning of spring is one of the most anticipated dates for people who want the warm weather that characterizes this season in Mexico.

Likewise, the Spring Equinox is considered one of the most enigmatic astronomical phenomena for Mexicans, as thousands of national and international tourists gather dressed in white at archaeological sites like Teotihuacán and Chichén Itzá to witness this event.

When is the Spring Equinox in Mexico?

According to the astronomy expert site StarWalk, the spring equinox will occur in the northern hemisphere next Thursday, March 20, 2025. This event will occur at 3:01 a.m. (Mexico time), according to the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics, and Electronics (INAOE).

It’s worth noting that NASA mentions that the equinoxes and solstices are caused by the Earth’s tilt on its axis and its constant motion as it orbits the Sun.

For this reason, the Sun will pass directly over the equator, bringing nearly equal amounts of day and night to all parts of the Earth. Thus, at the equator, an equinox results in approximately 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of night.
