Artisans clash with police in the historic center of Querétaro

A clash between police and artisans broke out in the heart of Querétaro’s Historic Center.

The clashes occurred due to the street artisans’ refusal to exchange the public space they used for a new location in order to free up public streets and ensure pedestrian access.

As a result, municipal personnel deployed an operation to remove street vendors in the Historic Center.

Various objects were reportedly thrown at the officers, who countered the attacks with chairs, sticks, bottles, and even the fences of street vendors.

This resulted in at least five police officers being injured, as well as the arrest of four alleged assailants.

According to authorities, the vendors were previously offered space at the Artisan Fair held in Jardín Guerrero.

Although most of the vendors agreed to participate in the sales space, a group rejected the offer, which sparked the clash.
