Given the risk of a decline in economic activity this year, the hotel sector will work to promote tourism, explained the president of the Querétaro Hotel Association (AQH), Mónica Aguilar Torrentera.
One of the main challenges facing the hotel industry in 2025, she added, is the possible economic contraction.
“I think that avoiding an economic contraction will be a challenge in general, because it affects hotels more. We are working together with the Ministry of Tourism, we will be working hand in hand on all aspects of tourism promotion for hotels,” she explained.
The actions will focus on attracting leisure and business tourism to balance the demand for services throughout the week.
Although it depends on the geographic location of the hotels, in some cases business tourism predominates, accounting for almost 60% of demand, compared to 40% for leisure tourism.
Demand Increases in the Sector
For now, the hotel sector expects a surge in demand for services during this long weekend, hoping to achieve an average occupancy rate of 66 percent.
This holiday period represents the beginning of a good time for the industry, after the first two months typically see a decline in services.
Hotels located in the Historic Center have the best prospects for this holiday season.
“The March long weekend is a very good one for hotels. I hope we’ll reach occupancy rates above 66 percent, with some seeing a greater increase, although the Historic Center may always have more,” she explained.
The president of the AQH explained that investments continue to establish new hotels. Two projects have been agreed upon this year, and another could materialize.
There are 1,404 lodging establishments in the state in 15 of the 18 municipalities, according to the 2024 Economic Yearbook.
Tequisquiapan and San Juan del Río have the most establishments, with more than 300 each; followed by the city of Querétaro (214), among others.
