On Monday, March 17, the murder of Javier Cruz Jiménez was reported as a result of a shooting. He was the former mayor of San Pedro Mixtepec, Oaxaca. The identity of the aforementioned individual was reported by the State Attorney General’s Office, which only shared the initials J.C.J.
“The initial investigations carried out by the FGEO, through a multidisciplinary team led by the Regional Deputy Attorney General’s Office for the Coast, reveal that the victim was the former mayor of San Pedro Mixtepec,” according to a statement shared on social media.
The firearm attack against the former official occurred in Puerto Escondido. Javier Cruz died as a result of his injuries. So far, no arrests have been made who could be linked to the case.
The area where the attack occurred was cordoned off by security agents, and State, Tourist, and Highway Police officers responded to the scene. There is no information regarding the source of the armed attack.

On Cruz Jiménez’s social media account, a post shared on March 10, appears about a community assembly in San Pedro Mixtepec.
“The commissioner of communal property and his oversight council were appointed,” the post reads.
Meanwhile, another photo, shared at the end of January, shows Javier Cruz with former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO).
Also on Facebook, local media outlet Canal47 shared an obituary mourning the death of Cruz Jiménez.
In January 2022, Mario Delgado (current head of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) and former president of the National Regeneration Party (Morena)) congratulated Javier Cruz on his appointment.
“I congratulate Javier Cruz Jiménez on the start of his administration in San Pedro Mixtepec, Oaxaca. May the beginning of the transformation bring well-being to the municipality. Congratulations.”
It’s worth remembering that Cruz Jiménez served as mayor of San Pedro Mixtepec from 2022 to 2024, his term ending on December 31.
In another case, on March 14, Irán Villarreal Belmont, a journalist and candidate for mayor of San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato, for the Movimiento Ciudadano party, was found dead. This happened after his disappearance was reported.
