While waiting to host the best seafood chefs from across the country, Mazatlán is preparing to host the first National Aguachile Championship, expected to take place in June.

This event will seek to establish itself as one of the top culinary references for the preparation of this iconic dish in Mexico, where Mazatlán will be the permanent venue.

The president of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry in Mazatlán, Erick Mandujano Caro, expressed his hope that this gastronomic championship will have a national impact.

“We are bringing an event that will be extremely important for Mazatlán and for Mexico. We are going to hold the National Aguachile Championship so that the best seafood chefs from across the country can come and create their best versions of aguachile,” he said.

The president of Canirac in Mazatlán added that sponsorship work is currently underway to organize these events, offering attractive prizes that will attract the best seafood chefs.

“We want ‘big leaguers’ in seafood cuisine and beyond, who will come to compete against local, state, and regional players, where the best seafood prepared in aguachile is found, which goes beyond lemon and salt.”

Mandujano Caro added that the corresponding registration has already been made for this event, which will also feature a gastronomic festival featuring a wide variety of seafood to showcase the richness of Mexican coastal cuisine.

“We want to create a festival that is economically self-sustaining, where people come from outside to participate and have their stands within the festival we will hold following the championship.”

In this way, this event aims to strengthen Mazatlán’s identity as an important gastronomic destination for Mexico, gaining relevance both nationally and internationally over time.
