The military has the security of Puebla in its hands

Governor Alejandro Armenta has decided to go all out in the fight against insecurity in Puebla, banking, in preparation for the upcoming season of the Fair and the Palenque, on the military’s ability to solve the serious problem facing the state.

These are extremely difficult times throughout Mexico, and Puebla is no exception. During his nearly first 100 days in office, the state governor has focused all his efforts on reducing crime in the state.

His initial commitment to a sailor, Vice Admiral Francisco Sánchez, appears to be bearing fruit, according to the numbers; however, public perception still does not match the arrest and crime reduction figures provided by the authorities.

Murders like the one that occurred last Friday in San Andrés Cholula and last Tuesday in the capital city of Puebla contribute to the lack of change in public perception; on the contrary, they generate a climate of fear, amidst everything else being seen across the country.

The decision to appoint another military officer, in this case a Mexican army colonel, Félix Pallares Miranda, to command public security in the capital of Puebla, seems to follow this logic.

At the beginning of the current municipal administration, the new authorities had the opportunity to choose their commander and opted for a civilian to lead the charge in the person of Fernando Rosales Solís, who failed, and it must be said, in all its glory.

Rosales was overwhelmed not only by crime, but also by the mafias and groups that have formed within this agency for many years and have not been eradicated.

The police rebellion a few days ago, following the murder of two of their colleagues, is the best example of Rosales’ failure both inside and outside the corporation, which led to his downfall. Mayor Pepe Chedraui understood that it was no longer sustainable to keep this character in office and made the best decision by letting him go and bringing in his replacement.
