This week, Cozumel’s deep-water port is bustling with activity as it welcomes 36 cruise ships, a five-vessel increase compared to the previous week. From March 17 to March 23, approximately 108,000 tourists, including passengers and crew, are expected to visit the island, bringing a notable economic boost.
Wednesday marked the busiest day of the week, with eight cruise ships docking at the port, closely followed by Tuesday with seven arrivals. Thursday is slated for six dockings, Friday for five, and the weekend will see a slowdown with two arrivals each on Saturday and Sunday.
The Puerta Maya dock leads in activity with 15 dockings, three of which are fully booked. SSA México follows with 11 arrivals and four full houses, while Punta Langosta port is set to host nine cruise ships, also featuring four fully booked days. One ship will remain anchored offshore, awaiting its turn.
With an average of 3,000 tourists per cruise ship spending an estimated $80 per person, the economic impact for the week is projected to reach 146,880,000 pesos—approximately $7.5 million USD.
Cozumel previously hosted 33 cruise ships between February 17 and 23, drawing over 100,000 visitors as per the Quintana Roo Comprehensive Port Authority (Apiqroo). The ongoing surge in arrivals highlights Cozumel’s growing prominence as a key destination in the global cruise industry.
