Drug lab seized in Puerto Peñasco, nine arrested

The State Attorney General’s Office (FGJE) reported that nine men were arrested and a clandestine laboratory used for the production of synthetic drugs was secured in the municipality of Puerto Peñasco.

The statement from the Attorney General’s Office details that the arrest of the individuals and the seizure of the clandestine laboratory were thanks to a joint operation between members of the Ministerial Criminal Investigation Agency (AMIC), the Secretariat of National Defense, and the National Guard.

The tactical operation began around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, when the Joint Operation was conducting patrols and, near kilometer 52 of the Sonoyta-Puerto Peñasco highway, they detected a suspicious warehouse.

Men arrested in laboratory; they tried to flee
As they approached, several individuals attempted to flee the scene, but were pursued and captured by security forces.

The individuals identified themselves as Juan Manuel “N,” 30, José Ángel “N,” 57, Netzahualcóyotl “N,” 31, and José Manuel “N,” 27, all from Sinaloa, as well as Ulises “N,” 21, Joel “N,” 22, Rodolfo “N,” 34, Inés “N,” 33, and Agustín “N,” 40, all from Durango.

Inside the property, officers found specialized equipment for the production of synthetic narcotics, in addition to seizing a 5.56×45 caliber rifle with two loaded magazines and a white 2023 GMC Sierra pickup truck, reported stolen in the United States of America.

Military personnel secured and guarded the property while members of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) will conduct the corresponding formal search of the premises.

The defendants, the weapon, the vehicle, and other seized evidence were handed over to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office based in Sonoyta for further investigation.
