Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security, announced that this Monday Francisco Javier “N,” alias “El Veterano,” one of the 10 most wanted fugitives by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), was arrested.
“El Veterano” is considered by the U.S. agency to be the leader of the Salvadoran criminal organization Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13), and is wanted in the United States for crimes including conspiracy to lend and conceal materials and resources to terrorists, narco-terrorist conspiracy, organized crime, and trafficking in foreigners.
García Harfuch’s announcement was made through his social media accounts, where he emphasized that the arrest was made following an investigative effort by Security Cabinet personnel.
“El Veterano” was arrested on the Teocelo-Baxtla highway in the state of Veracruz, and authorities will transfer him to Mexico City for deportation to the United States.
According to the FBI, the detainee operated in the United States, Mexico, and El Salvador. The US agency was offering $250,000 for information leading to his capture.
Francisco Javier “N” has an FBI file on the top 10 most wanted fugitives in the United States, along with two other individuals with alleged ties to organized crime in Mexico.
Ryan James Wedding, Canadian by birth, is wanted by the FBI for his involvement in drug trafficking. They claim he has managed to transport hundreds of kilograms of cocaine from Colombia, through Mexico, and Southern California. The FBI is offering $10 million for information leading to his capture.
Fausto Isidro Meza-Flores, for his part, has his own criminal cell, identified as the Meza-Flores Transnational Criminal Organization (TCO), “a major, heavily armed drug trafficking organization based in Sinaloa.”
He is accused of possessing, distributing, and importing large quantities of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and marijuana into the United States. Authorities are offering $5 million for information on his whereabouts.
