In the state of Baja California Sur, members of the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) intercepted more than four tons of cocaine being transported on a small vessel. The drug, according to authorities, has a value of one billion pesos.
The operations took place off the coast of the Mexican Pacific during maritime surveillance patrols. During these operations, naval personnel observed a small vessel 56 nautical miles southeast of Cabo San Lucas.
The vessel was crewed by four people. When they noticed the presence of authorities, they attempted to flee the scene, which caught the attention of the naval officers.
Semar members approached the vessel to conduct an inspection and rule out any illicit activity. During the inspection, they found 150 packages containing 30 packages each.

When they opened the vessels, authorities found powdered cocaine. Approximately 4,500 kilograms of drugs were seized, equivalent to approximately 9 million doses.
According to estimates by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the more than four tons of cocaine are valued at 1,068,750,000 pesos. This represents a multimillion-dollar blow to drug trafficking activities in the state.
In addition to the drugs, eight 50-liter drums, 900 liters of fuel, and a “cubitanque” (tank) with 800 liters of hydrocarbons were also seized. No further details were provided regarding the vessel’s crew, although all four were detained and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
A video shared by the Semar shows naval personnel monitoring the vessel by air and sea as it sailed along the Pacific coast.
According to the head of the SSPC, Omar García Harfuch, this seizure brings the total to 31,000 kilograms of drugs seized at sea during Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration.
Among the most recent seizures is the one made off the coast of Oaxaca in mid-February. On that occasion, three individuals originally from Guatemala were arrested aboard two vessels.
Following a search, 1,922 kilograms of cocaine, valued at $24 million, were seized. Likewise, 1,380 liters of fuel were seized.
