PRI Calls for Concrete Proposals to Address Security Concerns in Mérida

In a recent meeting at the San Antonio Cucul Hacienda, several former leaders of Mexico’s Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) gathered to discuss the pressing issues facing Mérida, the state of Yucatán, and the country as a whole. The primary concern highlighted during the gathering was the deteriorating sense of security in both the capital and municipalities.

“The breakdown of the social fabric is worrying,” said one attendee. “We are seeing events that have never occurred in Yucatán. The threat of organized crime is at the state’s doorstep, and the PRI needs to have concrete proposals so that citizens realize we know how to govern,” he emphasized.

The party’s leader in Mérida, Rafael Echazarreta Torres, presented his project, “Valor por Mérida,” which aims to create a city with values. This initiative is divided into six thematic axes: Noble Mérida, Loyal Mérida, Dignified Mérida, Free Mérida, Mérida with Social Justice, and Responsible Mérida.

Echazarreta Torres stated that the project seeks to establish an efficient and honest municipal government, promoting opportunities for the community while preserving public safety. He noted that the absence of solutions has led to insults and slander, but people realize who wants to serve them and who is merely looking to be served by them.

Attendees included former PRI presidents from various gubernatorial terms, such as Juan José Abraham Achach, Eric Rubio Barthell, Roberto Pinzón Álvarez, Marco Antonio Martínez Zapata, Carlos Sobrino Sierra, Ignacio Mendicutti Pavón, and Luis Echeverría Navarro. Former officials from PRI administrations also attended, including Omar Pacho Sánchez and Antonio Sosa.

The meeting aimed to analyze the political and social situation facing Mérida and the state of Yucatán, with a focus on finding concrete solutions to address the security concerns that have been rising in recent times.
