In a moving event held at the Municipal Palace, the Government of San Miguel de Allende commemorated Artisan Day, recognizing the invaluable work of those who keep the region’s cultural traditions alive.
The Director of Economic Development, Tania Castillo, congratulated the artisans and highlighted the importance of their work, which projects the essence of San Miguel de Allende both nationally and internationally. Accompanied by members of the Tourism Advisory Council, Castillo reiterated the government’s commitment to continue promoting this fundamental sector.
One of the notable announcements was the continuation of the craft fairs, whose frequency has increased thanks to the support of the current administration. The traditional wool and brass fair has evolved into an annual calendar of three events, with the next edition scheduled for Easter Week.
The artisans have also found solid support through courses and workshops organized by the municipality. These initiatives have contributed to their professional growth, fostering innovation, and strengthening their brands.
During the ceremony, master artisan Ubaldo de Anda Ramírez, with 48 years of experience, expressed his gratitude to the mayor for the recognition of his profession. With words full of emotion, Ubaldo described the craft as a labor that encompasses love, dedication, and respect for cultural roots. For him, each piece created with his hands is a manifestation of natural beauty transformed into art.
“Being an artisan is being a guardian of our history and our traditions,” he stated. He also emphasized the belief that handcrafted pieces, when left “unfinished,” retain a special energy that is transmitted to the homes they receive.
Schools play a key role in the popularity of seasonal costumes, boosting the local economy and the spirit of the parade.
Government support, reflected in constant assistance and open-door policies, has strengthened the confidence of the artisan sector. The San Miguel administration emphasized that this collaboration will continue, fostering creativity and preserving the traditions that make this World Heritage city unique.
In San Miguel de Allende, crafts not only beautify spaces, but also tell stories and keep collective memory alive. This recognition is a sign of the commitment to continue honoring those who, with their hands, shape the municipality’s cultural identity.
