Two members of the Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office were arrested for their involvement in the murder of young men from Tlaxcala.
The local Public Prosecutor’s Office indicated, without elaborating on their charges, that the two officers worked in the state’s coastal region.
Their arrest arose from the results of the investigation into various criminal incidents that occurred in the coastal region, the state Attorney General’s Office reported.
It added that the incidents are related to the disappearance of individuals, an investigation that is ongoing.
“The FGEO is strengthening its internal control protocols to prevent officials from this institution from being involved in criminal conduct, and if they are found guilty, it is committed to applying the law to punish those responsible without distinction, thus preventing these types of cases from going unpunished,” the statement read.
The discovery of five bodies in an abandoned car in the municipality of San José Miahuatlán, in the state of Puebla, has put a potential conflict between criminal groups at the center of investigations.
According to the Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office, the victims, originally from Tlaxcala, traveled to Oaxaca to commit illicit activities in collaboration with a local criminal cell.
This incident, according to authorities, could have triggered a settling of scores that culminated in their murder.
The bodies were found on March 2 on the side of the Cuacnopalan-Oaxaca Highway. Preliminary investigations point to a confrontation between a criminal organization based in Tlaxcala and another operating in the Oaxaca Coast region.
This conflict reportedly led to the disappearance and subsequent murder of the young men.
The FGEO is working together with the National Guard, the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), the Ministry of the Navy (Semar), the State Police, and the prosecutor’s offices of Tlaxcala and Puebla to clarify the crimes of homicide and disappearance committed by private individuals.
According to the agency, reports have been received regarding the disappearance of seven people from Tlaxcala, four of whom were reported directly to the Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office.
Among the missing persons are Jaqueline, who was last seen on February 27 in Santa María Huatulco, and Brenda, Raúl, and Yamileth, who disappeared on February 28 at Zipolite beach, located in the municipality of San Pedro Pochutla. In addition, the State Search Commission reported the disappearance of three other people: Angie, Guillermo, and a young man identified as L. E. S. V.
Of the seven people reported missing, Brenda was found alive in the state of Puebla, while L. E. S. V. was arrested in Santa Cruz Huatulco for his alleged involvement in the events.
However, the fate of the other victims remains under investigation.
