Authorities from all three levels of government have determined that the Holy Week (April 13-20) and International Motorcycle Week (April 23-26) operations will begin on April 7, with the participation of 3,200 security personnel.
The coordinated planning meeting to address the increase in tourists was attended by General Martín Jiménez Olvera, representative of the National Defense Ministry; Humberto Zerón Martínez, of the Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat; Mayor Estrella Palacios; Jaime Othoniel Barrón Valdez, Secretary of Public Security of Mazatlán; Captain Narciso Miranda Salinas, of the Navy; Óscar Roberto Osuna Tirado, Municipal Civil Protection Coordinator; Fernando Castro, of the National Research Institute; and Major Christian Rafael Valeriano Hernández, of the National Guard.
The municipal government requested the support of the State Highway Police to ensure the safety of highways for visitors arriving by land.
It is estimated that by Easter, hotels and vacation rentals will reach 90 percent occupancy.
It is expected that during International Motorcycle Week, between 12,000 and 15,000 motorcyclists will arrive, coming from various states, the United States, Canada, and Costa Rica.
Last Friday, Governor Rubén Rocha held a meeting in the Third Military Region where he led the Security Roundtable together with General Guillermo Briseño Lobera.
