A bizarre altercation unfolded in Villahermosa, Tabasco, as two funeral home employees engaged in a physical fight over the service of a deceased man. The incident occurred on Monday, March 24, on Zapotal Street in the Atasta de Serra neighborhood, following the tragic death of a painter who was electrocuted while working on a building.

Witnesses reported that the employees, representing Los Ángeles and Sagrado Corazón funeral homes, argued over who would handle the arrangements for the deceased. The heated dispute escalated into a physical confrontation, with punches exchanged. A video shared on social media captured the moment when one of the men, dressed in a white shirt and yellow tie, pulled a knife from his pants and attempted to attack the other man, who fled to avoid injury.

The footage also showed two State Police officers present at the scene. Despite being alerted to the knife, the officers did not intervene to de-escalate the situation. Witnesses similarly refrained from stepping in to calm the aggressor.

Following the release of the video and criticism of the officers’ inaction, the Tabasco Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) confirmed the arrest of both funeral home employees. However, upon arriving at the SSPC’s facilities, the two men reached a mutual agreement to resolve their differences and were subsequently released.

In a statement, the SSPC emphasized its commitment to maintaining safety and order in the community. “The SSPC reaffirms its commitment to the safety, order, and tranquility of our community and reiterates that it will continue to act with due diligence and in accordance with the law in all situations that require it,” the agency stated.

This unusual incident highlights the lengths to which some funeral home employees may go in competing for services, raising questions about professional conduct in the industry.
