Massive Power Outages Sweep Across Cancún and Quintana Roo Municipalities

A widespread blackout has plunged several regions of Cancún, Quintana Roo, into darkness, affecting zones 100, 102, 103, and 200 for over three hours. The outages have caused significant disruptions, particularly in the city’s northwest, where traffic and daily activities have been heavily impacted.

Beyond Cancún, the blackout extended to municipalities such as Bacalar, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Isla Mujeres, and Cozumel. While electricity has been restored in some areas, intermittent failures persist in others. Local authorities have yet to provide a complete update on when power will be fully restored.

Reports from social media users highlight additional affected neighborhoods in Cancún, including Región 107, Fraccionamiento Paraíso Maya, Región 95, Región 208, Supermanzana 320, Villas Otoch Paraíso, Fraccionamiento Kusamil, and several others.

The power outages have also spread to other states across southern Mexico, including Campeche, Yucatán, and Tabasco. In Campeche and Yucatán, residents experienced an hour-long blackout, while towns in Tabasco, such as Nacajuca and Jalpa de Méndez, were similarly impacted.

As residents brace for the hottest months of the year, the recurring power disruptions raise concerns over the stability of the electrical grid. The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) has yet to release a formal explanation for the outages.
