Rush-hour chaos: Protests cause traffic jams on the Mexico-Puebla highway.

During rush hour, a group of residents from the El Molino neighborhood in the municipality of Ixtapaluca, Mexico City, blocked traffic on the Mexico-Puebla highway. The protest blocked traffic on this toll road, initially affecting only the lanes heading toward Mexico City. However, as the protest progressed, it blocked both directions of the toll road.

Just before 7:00 p.m. this Wednesday, some two hundred residents of this area of Ixtapaluca set up a blockade at kilometer 28, placing rocks and tires on the side of the creek to impede motorists.

The protesters are demanding the construction of a pedestrian bridge over this toll road, arguing that despite the construction of the Santa Martha-Chalco Elevated Train, no plans have been made to build a bridge to benefit the residents of El Molino.

The protesters denounce the fact that for more than six years they have had to cross the toll road using a makeshift bridge, following the demolition of a concrete bridge near the old toll booth, which, despite the passage of time, has not been rebuilt.

Another group of protesters is also occupying the lanes of a highway interchange in this area near the “old toll booth,” adding to their demands the construction of an Elevated Trolleybus station in the El Molinito area. Amid the traffic chaos, and in order to pressure the authorities, the protesters blocked all lanes of the road.

National Guard personnel from the highway detachment are already on the scene, trying to reach an agreement with the protesters to remove the blockade and allow traffic to return to normal.
