Former Puerto Vallarta officials charged with corruption

This Thursday, the Puerto Vallarta Control and Oral Court indicted Rafael “N” and Lucio “N” for alleged abuse of authority and misuse of powers and authority. Lucio “N” is also charged with embezzlement. Both served as Senior Administrative Officers in the previous municipal administration.

The Accusations

The case relates to the hiring of Galilea Guadalupe “N” as a City Attorney, despite not having a professional license. Furthermore, she received paid vacation time before it was due and was given full salary without deductions, despite repeatedly failing to attend.

During the hearing, Lucio “N”‘s defense presented new evidence, arguing that the initial hiring of Galilea “N” was the responsibility of her predecessor, Rafael “N.” They also pointed out that the improper payment of salary and vacation time was the responsibility of other administrative departments.

Despite these statements, Judge Luis Daniel Canales González determined that Lucio “N” had the obligation to verify the payroll and that he had repeatedly granted him an illegal appointment.

For his part, Rafael “N” did not present any statements or arguments in his defense.

The Judge’s Decision and Precautionary Measures

Based on 40 pieces of evidence presented by the Jalisco Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, the judge ordered the prosecution of both former officials. Testimony from City Hall lawyers was also presented, confirming that they were indeed required to have a professional license to be hired.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office agent, Brenda Janeth Ruiz Arias, requested precautionary measures, which were granted by the judge:
