Sonora, among the states with the highest rate of intentional homicides in Mexico: it ranks sixth

With a total of 90 intentional homicides, Sonora ranks sixth in the state with the highest number of cases in March, according to information from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (Sesnsp).

The preliminary count of intentional homicide victims, reported by state prosecutors’ offices, highlights that between March 1 and 24, Sonora accounted for 5.6% of the total cases reported nationwide.

Guanajuato ranks first, with a total of 278 intentional homicides, representing 17.2% of the cases nationwide.

The State of Mexico follows with 126 cases, equivalent to 7.8%; then Chihuahua with 109 cases, equal to 6.7%; Baja California, with 99 cases, occupies 6.1%; and Sinaloa, with 95 cases, represents 5.9% of the cases..

As of February 25, Sonora ranked seventh in intentional homicides nationwide, with the same number of victims, accounting for 5.7% of cases nationwide.

On the other hand, it is worth noting that the Sonora Observatory for Security reported an increase in intentional homicides in San Luis Río Colorado, Navojoa, Hermosillo, Cajeme, and Nogales during the first month of 2025, compared to the same period last year.

In San Luis Río Colorado the increase was 209.09%, in Navojoa it was 200%, in Hermosillo it was 50%, in Cajeme it was 45.45% and in Nogales it was 16.67%.
