2

The highly anticipated ferry service connecting Ensenada and San Diego is almost ready to offer a scenic crossing for travelers. Azteca Ferries, the company behind the new route, is fine-tuning its policies and laying out essential guidelines for anyone eager to explore these two vibrant cities.

Policy Updates and Travel Preparations

Travelers should review the latest details on the Azteca Ferries website, as policies are subject to change. Any modifications that may impact your travel experience will be communicated through official channels. A crucial reminder: each traveler is responsible for completing all required immigration procedures before departure. Azteca Ferries will not be liable for any issues arising at customs or immigration. Reservations can be modified—whether by date, time, or name—subject to availability and possible extra fees, and in the event of overbooking, the full ticket price will be refunded.

Boarding Requirements and Luggage Guidelines

Passengers must bring a boarding pass and an official ID, arriving at least two hours prior to departure. You are permitted up to two carry-on bags, with additional fees for transporting special items such as musical instruments or sports equipment. It is advised not to pack valuables in checked luggage, as the company is not responsible for any losses or damages. The ferry is designed to be accessible, featuring facilities for passengers with reduced mobility—allowing wheelchairs and service animals at no extra cost—and provides travel accommodations for pregnant women up to the 36th week of a single pregnancy or the 32nd week for multiple pregnancies.

Additional Travel Details and Restrictions

Other important details include the following: cancellations are not accepted after the first 24 hours of booking (with few exceptions), and delays of less than four hours do not warrant compensation unless specified in the company’s policy. Azteca Ferries reserves the right to deny boarding to anyone who does not provide the required documentation or poses a risk to the service. Prohibited items include firearms, ammunition, explosive or flammable substances, hazardous chemicals, sharp objects, drugs or illegal substances, and large lithium batteries. Additionally, passengers under 18 must travel with a parent or legal guardian (or have notarized permission if accompanied by another adult), and only dogs and cats are allowed on board as pets, emotional support, or service animals.

Launch Schedule

Kurt Honold Morales, head of Baja California’s Department of Economy and Innovation, confirmed that Azteca Ferries is set to begin test trips in March, with the official launch scheduled for April during Tianguis Turístico 2025. The ferry will have a capacity of up to 330 passengers, though ticket prices are still being finalized in negotiations with the Port of San Diego.

As this innovative service prepares to bridge the gap between two dynamic cities, prospective passengers are encouraged to stay informed of any updates on policies and schedules. This new venture not only promises an efficient mode of transportation but also offers a unique, scenic journey that is sure to enhance the overall travel experience.
