To the west of Mexico City, personnel from the Mexico City Public Works and Services Secretariat (SOBSE), along with federal authorities, continue construction of the Mexico City-Toluca Intercity Train. Although the train already connects the State of Mexico with the Santa Fe area, work is focused on connecting Section III with Observatorio.

The new Observatorio terminal will allow connections to Line 1 and Line 12 of the Metro Collective Transportation System (STC), as well as improve mobility with the bus terminal. In recent days, the latest progress on the construction project has been announced, with progress at the Vasco de Quiroga station.

It’s worth noting that the Vasco de Quiroga station will connect the section currently served with the rest of the route to Observatorio. It will also function as a terminal, allowing connections to Line 3 of the Cablebús.

How is the construction of the Vasco de Quiroga station of the Mexico City-Toluca Intercity Train progressing?

Images of the progress of the El Insurgente Train were leaked on social media. At the end of March, the Vasco de Quiroga station was almost finished. The station’s structure and facade can be seen, as well as the rails where the tracks will be laid.

The @SntVTC account, which specializes in mobility in the Valley of Mexico, shared exclusive images of the work at Vasco de Quiroga. According to the photographs, the station has made great progress, as the structure and roof are almost complete.

Previously, only the columns and concrete structures where the trains will run could be seen. The stairs where the public will enter and exit can also be seen. Although this area will connect with the Cablebús Line 3 service, the transfer and accessibility for passengers are unknown.

When will the construction of the Mexico-Toluca Interurban Train be completed?

Currently, the El Insurgente train service operates from Zinacantepec, in the State of Mexico, to the Santa Fe station in Mexico City. However, two additional stations remain to be built to complete the route to the Observatorio terminal, in the west of the capital.

The completion of the Mexico-Toluca Intercity Train is one of the priorities of Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration, which has committed to completing this project. However, there is still no exact date for when the project could be completed. Despite the most recent progress, authorities have not revealed a specific date for its inauguration.
