In a massive effort to ensure public safety during one of Mexico’s most popular holiday periods, authorities in Veracruz have launched a comprehensive security operation ahead of Holy Week. The operation, which began on Saturday and will continue through Sunday the 20th, involves over 4,000 personnel from various emergency and police forces.
Governor Rocío Nahle García kicked off the operation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining order for the thousands of visitors expected to arrive in Veracruz, particularly at its beaches, rivers, and tourist areas. “We want you to enjoy our beaches, rivers, culture, and cuisine, but above all, to have a safe and memorable vacation,” she said.
The security operation will be conducted by land, air, and sea, with contingents deployed across 73 municipalities that offer tourist services, 29 coastal municipalities, and the most visited beaches. More than 800 official vehicles will be used in the operation.
Helicopters, ambulances, boats, trucks, and jet skis will be part of the effort to maintain order and respond quickly to any incidents. The authorities have also called on the public to take precautions, including checking their homes before leaving, verifying the condition of their vehicles, driving with caution, and avoiding driving or entering water after consuming alcohol.
Veracruz is a popular destination for millions of visitors each year, and this security operation aims to ensure that tourists can enjoy their vacation safely and responsibly. The authorities’ “Safe Vacations” strategy will be in place throughout the period.
