Starting in June, the maritime route between La Paz and Mazatlán will have a new ferry, the Cabo Star, a 200-meter-long vessel with capacity for 400 passengers and a larger cargo volume. This ferry will replace the México Star and offer trips three times a week in each direction, with improvements focused on tourism, supply, and reducing environmental impact.
State Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío received executives from Baja Ferries, led by CEO Nino Leaño, in his office. They announced the upcoming addition of the new Cabo Star ferry, which will begin operating on the La Paz-Mazatlán route in mid-June of this year.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that this new vessel—the largest of its kind in Latin America—represents an important advance in connectivity between Baja California Sur and the rest of the country.
John Steinbeck’s immortalized ship welcomed the curious on its first day of exhibition, showcasing its scientific facilities.
With a length of 200 meters, a width of 27 meters, and a capacity for 400 passengers, in addition to a significant increase in cargo capacity, the Cabo Star will contribute to improving the transportation of people and goods.
The general director of Baja Ferries indicated that the vessel is being adapted to offer a better onboard experience, especially designed for tourism.
Governor Castro Cosío recognized the vision of the business leaders, who, he said, are aligning their investments with the current needs of the state. He emphasized the importance of having efficient services for the transportation of supplies and the transportation of passengers, benefiting the economic and social development of Baja California Sur.
The Cabo Star will replace the current Mexico Star and will operate trips from Mazatlán to La Paz on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, while the La Paz-Mazatlán route will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Finally, it was reported that this new project includes three key objectives: ensuring supply, offering a quality tourist experience, and reducing the environmental impact of the service.
