The Blue Market, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRICULTURA) through the National Aquaculture and Fisheries Commission (CONAPESCA), was held with great success on the esplanade of its headquarters in Mazatlán, Sinaloa.
The event was part of the “Flavors of Lent” consumer promotion campaign, launched in March of this year. During this event, individuals dedicated to production, marketing, culinary preparation, and artisanal processing presented their products to the general public.
The National Commissioner of Aquaculture and Fisheries, Alejandro Flores Nava, recognized the participation of the exhibitors, whom he considered key players in the country’s food security by bringing nutritious products to Mexican tables.
Flores Nava noted that, internationally, the annual consumption of 17 kilos of fish per person is recommended, equivalent to 330 grams per week to maintain a balanced diet.
She also emphasized the importance of including aquatic products in daily diets, especially for developing children, due to their high phosphorus and calcium content. “Children require phosphorus and calcium for bone development, and a high concentration of both nutrients is found in fish,” she emphasized.
For her part, Verónica Lango Reynoso, Director General of Organization and Promotion of Conapesca, thanked the exhibitors for their presence, highlighting that these types of activities promote responsible consumption by bringing the public closer to the diversity of aquatic products available on the market.
“There are authorities here committed to the development of these events, especially for the benefit of those dedicated to selling fresh and value-added fish and seafood,” she stated.
Flor Emilia Guerra Mena, Secretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture of Sinaloa, affirmed that the state agency will be an ally of Conapesca to continue promoting producers and the jobs derived from fishing and aquaculture activities.
“Each producer, fisherman, and woman puts in the effort, love, and passion. Thank you for thinking of Sinaloa, for inviting us; we will be allies of the Mexican government to continue promoting sustainable fishing, and above all, to generate well-being for families in the fishing sector,” she stated.
Nationally recognized chef Andrea Lizárraga, ambassador of the Mexican Council of Fisheries and Aquaculture Products (COMEPESCA), highlighted the importance of these spaces to promote consumption and value the work of those who ensure that the quality of the sea reaches our tables.
“Thank you, Conapesca; thank you, Commissioner, for your work in promoting responsible consumption and guaranteeing the traceability of seafood. By doing so, you ensure that quality and history reach our tables,” she stated.
Representatives from the municipal governments of Mazatlán and Culiacán, as well as local authorities from the fishing sector, were also present at the opening event.
At the eight booths, exhibitors offered a variety of products, including traditional dishes, display fish tanks, hydrolyzed collagen, fish-based biojewelry, shrimp stews, tuna sausages, seafood sauces, and fresh oysters.
