When it comes to vacationing and relaxing, Mexicans are experts. During this Easter holiday, our country’s beaches are one of the main attractions, particularly Acapulco, Guerrero.
“Maybe the stars are closer to Earth, and that’s why everything changed color (…) My hands are thirsty, my lips want to kiss you, in Acapulco.”
The Resurgence
Months after Hurricane Otis (October 2023), and later Hurricane John (September 2024), literally devastated one of the city’s favorite beach spots, a favorite of residents of the capital, Acapulco was rebuilt, a titanic task carried out by individuals and the Federation so that hundreds of hotels and restaurants could enjoy the warm waters of the Pacific.
For this holiday season, more than 15,000 rooms out of a total of 19,000 were renovated, allowing for an average occupancy rate of 75 to 80% thanks to the investment made, reported Abelina López Rodríguez, municipal president of the state. She took the opportunity to congratulate the business owners “who, instead of running away, invested,” she said in an interview with a national radio station.
“With the support of the federal government, which has now reopened the entire tourist zone (…) six corridors, as they call them, will be built. What is a corridor? A corridor could be the investment that ASIPONA will make to remodel the pier, to rehabilitate the port lane, to remodel the boardwalk, to create natural pools in the sea,” the official explained.
“Acapulco is primarily about tourism. We can’t remain static, hence the importance of addressing the issue of security. We have an excellent relationship with the Federation, the state, and the municipality. We are highly coordinated, and there is no impunity (…) I can assure tourists, visitors, and Acapulco residents that work is being done,” the mayor emphasized when speaking about security in the area.
This weekend, occupancy is expected to reach 90%, which will contribute to the economic recovery of the port and those who make their living from tourism.
“The swell is gone now. It’s a natural process that takes three days. Today it’s gone. The beaches are calm. You can come and swim,” said López Rodríguez, urging citizens to visit the place, because as the “Divo de Linares,” Raphael, said:
“Everything speaks to me of love.
The air, the rocks, and the flowers.
In Acapulco.
Everything speaks to me of love.
The sea, the stars, and the sun.
In Acapulco.”
“My mouth fills with you.
And I feel an endless delirium.
In Acapulco.
Something pulls me, something burns me.
Something that exists in Acapulco.”
Tara, ra!
