The municipality of Peñamiller reported that the use of razor vehicles on the Extoraz River, a major tourist attraction, has been banned. However, if they cause damage, the fine could amount to 5.6 million pesos.

The circular issued by Conagua, Profepa, the Environment Ministry, and CONANP was released, establishing that the Sierra Gorda region, which encompasses the Querétaro municipalities of Pinal de Amoles, Arroyo Seco, Peñamiller, Landa de Matamoros, and Jalpan de Serra, has been declared a Protected Natural Area. Consequently, the use of vehicles in the area is prohibited.

“In the aforementioned context, and in relation to recreational tourist activities involving all-terrain vehicles held within the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve, which are promoted on social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, these activities are unauthorized and not validated by the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas in the Sierra Gorda Biosphere Reserve.”

Therefore, the use of all-terrain vehicles (4x4s) is not permitted, and those found to be inattentive will be subject to the corresponding administrative inspection and surveillance procedure. In the event that one or more violations are found, they will be sanctioned with fines ranging from 40 to 50,000 UMAs (Measurement and Update Units).

“The authority may exercise the powers conferred upon it by law to impose urgent security measures and/or corrective measures; furthermore, if the conduct or omissions are classified as criminalized in the Federal Penal Code, the corresponding criminal complaint will be filed with the Attorney General’s Office.”
