International travel from Mexico grew 25% during Holy Week 2025

This year, during the Easter season, international travel from Mexico increased by 25% compared to the same period in 2024. The most popular destinations among Mexican travelers were: the United States, Japan, Italy, and Spain, followed by the Dominican Republic, Colombia, the United Kingdom, France, Argentina, and Portugal.

According to RateHawk, this growth is primarily attributed to increased consumer interest in destinations outside of Latin America and the expansion of international air routes from Mexico.

One of the most notable data points is Japan, which has become the second most requested international destination by Mexican travel agencies for this season, displacing other traditional options.

According to the platform, this increase is due, in part, to the resumption of direct flights operated by Aeroméxico and All Nippon Airways, which currently offer 14 weekly flights between Mexico and Japan.

Greater flight availability has also boosted connectivity to other countries such as Colombia, Canada, and the United States, strengthening Mexico’s position as the country with the best international air connectivity in Latin America.

The average daily spending on accommodation abroad reached 6,800 Mexican pesos, with an average stay of three days, representing a total expenditure per person of nearly 27,000 pesos. This represents a 28% increase compared to the same period in 2024, in line with the 22% year-over-year growth trend recorded that year.

Regarding domestic destinations, Cancún, Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta, Playa del Carmen, Xpu-Ha, Puerto Morelos, and Nuevo Vallarta remained the top options.

Finally, these data reflect a consolidation of the tourism sector’s recovery, as well as a shift in the travel patterns of Mexican consumers, who are diversifying their destinations and increasing their spending on both domestic and international tourism experiences.
