Alleged abuse of authority by police officers at Jalisco Stadium captured on camera

The match between Atlas and Chivas, played on the night of Saturday, April 19, continues to be a hot topic; however, beyond the sporting aspect, it echoes the acts of violence that occurred.

A video of an alleged abuse of authority by two security officers spread through social media. One of them was assigned to the State Security Secretariat (SSE) and a member of the private security team at Jalisco Stadium, this Saturday night during the Atlas vs. Chivas Clásico Tapatío.

How did the police attack occur?

In the 45-second video, the private security member is seen hitting a Chivas fan in the head while being detained by the state officer. Tempers flare, and one of the fans begins recording the scene and warns the officer that he is recording.

Later, the victim, who was trying to protect himself and cover his face with his hands, was hit again by the State Security officer, who first grabbed him by the sweatshirt and then, within seconds, pushed him toward the exit with his body.

People began to shout at them, and a female fan’s voice was heard yelling at the officer, asking why he had hit him. In the distance, a second shout of “Pigs!” was heard, and both officers turned away, seemingly unconcerned that the people were criticizing their actions.

Again, another Atlas fan complained to the officers, and then the same man who had hit the victim forced him to leave his position and head toward the exit. So far, state authorities have not commented on what happened.

Clásico Tapatío is no longer safe for fans

Unfortunately, games like the one between Chivas and Atlas are no longer a spectacle that families can attend safely. There have already been several episodes of violence before, during, and after these types of matches.

Last night’s match alone saw three outbreaks of brawls, both inside and outside the stadium, resulting in ten arrests. Fans and authorities, both from Liga MX and the state of Jalisco, must find solutions to end the escalating violence that has occurred at recent Guadalajara derby matches.
