Our favorite cat is about to arrive in Mexico. Flow continues to be a global phenomenon in the country, and that inevitably prompted a unique celebration. Would you like to see the film with its director? Here’s how you can make it happen.

2025 started in the best possible way, at least for cinema in Mexico. After touring many festivals and winning over international audiences, Flow, the film by Gints Zilbalodis, had its national premiere and became a phenomenon that delighted fans.

Funny, adorable, and very existentialist, we all loved Flow’s story. The love for the film was so great that it not only filled social media with memes but also achieved one of the highest box office receipts internationally.

According to Cine Caníbal, Flow’s local distributor, the Oscar-winning film garnered more than 2 million viewers throughout its entire run in Mexico.

Box Office figures revealed that in Mexico, it grossed just over $5 million during its theatrical run. With this, our country became the second largest consumer of Flow, after France, which grossed $5,285,000.

Therefore, as a gift to Mexican viewers and an opportunity for Zilbalodis to meet his fans, a special screening of the film will be held with the Latvian director in attendance.

How to attend the Flow screening?

The special screening of the animated film was announced over a week ago. On April 10, the Mexico City government announced that it would hold a screening of the award-winning film in commemoration of Children’s Day, which will take place on April 30.

Flow is expected to achieve one of its largest screenings globally this month, with a massive screening in Mexico City’s Zócalo.

The news was so well received that it not only became a trending topic on social media, but also received global coverage by Zilbalodis. On his Instagram, he wrote:

“Flow will be screened for free at the Zócalo in Mexico City on April 30th at 7:00 PM. It will be the first film to be shown at the Zócalo, which has a capacity of 200,000 people.”

But the news didn’t stop there; the European filmmaker’s visit to Mexico to meet with the national audience was recently confirmed.

This morning, Cine Caníbal announced that Zilbalodis will be attending the official screening of Flow.

The screening will be free for all those who wish to attend, so if you want to meet the director, be sure to arrive early to get a good spot.
