On Easter Sunday morning, a serious traffic accident occurred on the Gómez Palacio-Durango freeway near the town of Chocolate in the municipality of Lerdo, leaving at least nine people injured, according to a report from Lerdo Civil Protection.
The collision occurred between a private vehicle carrying a family and an armored truck, which collided head-on when one of them crossed into the lane at kilometer 205.
Although the number of injured was not initially specified, hours later, Civil Protection head Isabel Macías announced that nine people were injured and transported to different clinics in Gómez Palacio by Red Cross paramedics.
It was also reported that some were being transported in an emergency with critical health conditions; however, the list of injured indicated that they were stable and under evaluation.
The first vehicle is a gray Chrysler PR Cruiser, while the second is a white pickup truck with the SEPSA logo and business number 7225.

All of them were taken to IMSS Clinic 51 in Gómez Palacio.
A total of five ambulances were dispatched to the town to treat the injured, who were heading to a recreational area to spend the last day of Holy Week with the family. However, around 9:00 a.m., the incident occurred and was reported by Highway Department officers who were heading to the dam as part of a security operation for Holy Week.
“Three ambulances from Gómez Palacio, one from Lerdo, and one from Municipal Health responded because initially they reported 11 injured,” Macias said in an interview.
The accident destroyed the front of the Chrysler vehicle, and although the pickup truck was the one that flipped off the road, the private car in which both families were traveling was the most severely damaged.
“The cause has not been determined; according to a witness, they say a lane was crossed. What we can’t say is who crossed the lane, whether it was the car or the SUV, but it was a lane crossing, and that’s when they collided head-on,” he explained.
