The Falun Dafa Association of Mexico categorically condemned the statements made by the Chinese Embassy in Mexico and their dissemination by national media, calling them part of a global campaign to discredit Shen Yun, a performance that promotes China’s ancient cultural heritage and spiritual freedom.
Shen Yun Performing Arts, the show’s promoter, strongly condemned the recent statements by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, which were echoed by national media.
The organization called the statements “defamatory and false” and asserted that they are part of a global campaign driven by the Chinese regime to discredit Shen Yun abroad.
What is Shen Yun?
Shen Yun is a renowned New York-based classical Chinese dance and music company founded in 2006. Its mission is to revive and share 5,000 years of traditional Chinese civilization through performance art, with an emphasis on spiritual and philosophical values that were eradicated in China after the Communist Party came to power.
The Mexican Association warned that the embassy’s attempts to discredit the show represent an attack on the fundamental rights of the Mexican public, seeking to restrict their access to legitimate and peaceful cultural expressions.
“This defamation campaign not only seeks to silence an international artistic expression, but also to restrict the cultural and spiritual freedom of Mexicans in their own territory,” the organization said in a statement.
The Spirituality Behind the Art
Shen Yun artists practice Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline of Chinese origin that promotes meditation and righteous living based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. This practice has been severely persecuted in China since 1999, when millions of people adopted it as part of their daily lives.
According to human rights reports, the Chinese Communist Party has systematically persecuted Falun Dafa practitioners through arbitrary imprisonment, torture, and ideological repression. Despite this violence, followers have maintained a peaceful resistance, which inspires many of the pieces performed by Shen Yun.
“Shen Yun’s stories are based on true stories of faith, resistance, and hope. They are not fiction or propaganda, but artistic testimonies of a silenced reality in China,” added Falun Dafa Mexico spokespersons.
Shen Yun Arrives in Mexico This May
Shen Yun’s 2025 tour includes performances at the National Auditorium in Mexico City and Guadalajara, from May 1–10. The organization invites the public to attend and experience a performance that has touched millions of people in more than 150 cities around the world.
