The heavy rains caused by cold front number 39 caused flooding in low-lying neighborhoods in the city of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, and in other areas, causing mobility problems for both pedestrians and motorists.
The downpour began early Monday morning, with four inches of rainfall.
By morning and through noon, the amount reached 2.5 inches, according to a report from the Water and Drainage Board of this border municipality.
The accumulated water level reached 40 centimeters in low-lying areas throughout the city.
Some affected areas were the Palmas, Sauces, and San Francisco neighborhoods, the Centro area, and the Satélite neighborhood.
Main avenues such as Del Niño and Pedro Cárdenas experienced high water levels.
The State Guard implemented “Plan Tamaulipas” to help residents and motorists, as traffic was very high there.
Meanwhile, the municipality announced the start of work to dredge the areas.
The heavy rains are the result of cold front number 39, which is stationary in the northeastern part of the country, and the collision of low-pressure channels.
