Puebla, among the most violent states in the country, ranks third in atrocities

The state of Puebla ranked third nationally for the highest number of high-impact acts of violence during the first quarter of the year, reported the civil organization Causa en Común.

With 98 cases of extreme violence, the state was behind only Sinaloa and Guanajuato, according to the first report of 2025 from the study “Gallery of Horror: Atrocities and High-Impact Events Reported in the Media.”

Causa en Común revealed that from January to March of this year, at least 1,321 crimes of extreme violence were committed in the country.

During the period, at least 338 cases of murders with torture, 152 mutilations, dismemberments, and destruction of corpses, 134 acts of violence against authorities, and 109 cases of massacres and murders of women with extreme cruelty were recorded.

An average of 14 atrocities and 21 victims were recorded per day, for a total of 1,914 victims of some kind of atrocity during the period.

The states with the highest incidence during the period were Sinaloa (176 cases), Guanajuato (152), and Puebla (98).

The organization emphasized that, as with the rest of the states, there is an undetermined number of atrocities that were not reported by the press.

Causa en Común believes it is necessary for every citizen and every community to demand that local and federal governments resolve cases that have harmed the community, with solid investigations.

Furthermore, sociological and psychological approaches are essential to understand the different local realities and generate proposals for preventing and addressing violence.

In addition to providing budget, technical, and human resources to the Executive Commission for Victim Assistance and the National Search Commission to guarantee essential services and legal and financial assistance to victims of atrocities.
