María del Carmen Morales, a member of the Guerreros Buscadores de Jalisco collective, and her son, Jaime Daniel Ramírez Morales, were murdered Wednesday night in the Las Villas neighborhood of Tlajomulco. Her companions claim that she had already received threats to stop her search for her other son, Evaristo Julián Ramírez Morales, who had been missing since February 24, 2024.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Villa Oriente Street. According to the report from the municipal police who responded to the incident, two men arrived on a motorcycle and shot the searcher and her son.
Witnesses indicated that María del Carmen Morales, 43, and her 26-year-old son, left their home at that time to go to a nearby park with buckets and fetch water due to the lack of water in the area.
After the attack, both were injured, so some neighbors called for an ambulance, but when paramedics arrived, they found both dead.
In a statement, the State Attorney General’s Office stated that the attack was directed against the son of the searching mother, and she tried to defend him. Therefore, their main line of investigation is focused on that, as “there is currently no evidence to indicate that this is related to his mother’s activity as a member of a group searching for missing persons.”
For its part, the Guerreros Buscadores de Jalisco collective demanded that authorities conduct a thorough investigation to bring justice to this family.
“We ask the president (Claudia Sheinbaum) to pressure the state of Jalisco to take concrete measures to prevent violence and guarantee justice for the victims and their families,” the group said in a statement.
On March 5, the Guerreros Buscadores collective of Jalisco exposed the existence of the Izaguirre Ranch, in the municipality of Teuchitlán, a site where the Jalisco New Generation Cartel confined, trained, and murdered forcibly recruited individuals.
